I have just heard that Sand has been awarded the 2010 John Burroughs Medal.

This is great, congratulations! I'm looking at the list of past winners which includes Aldo Leopold's "Sand County Almanac" and Peter Mathiessen's "Sand Rivers" as well as John McPhee's "The Control of Nature." You are in distinguished company.

Just came across this by John Burroughs, which seems pertinent:
