OK, so I didn't notice the wave coming in - but the sentiment (as well as the lettering) remains!
The Mediterranean coast of France, where the Pyrenees come down to the sea, is, to say the least, a pleasant place to spend the seasonal holidays. Much of the rest of Europe may be snowbound and icy, but here in this corner of the country that seems to create its own microclimate, we complain about clouds.
December 27th was a gloriously sunny and mild day, and we joined the crowds for the market in Collioure, for just sitting around by the sea, and for a stroll, une promenade, along the coast. And, of course, to inspect the tafoni.
And, for those with a structural and deformational inclination, the tortured history of the Pyrenees is evident not only in the outcrops, but in the walls.
And this is the place - absolutely no Photoshop fingers have touched this picture, it's exactly the way it looked. No wonder Matisse and countless other artists loved the light of Collioure.
